There's something magical about watching kids run through spraying water on a hot summer day – the laughter, the squeals of delight, the pure, unbridled joy. This summer, that magic became accessible to even more families in Madison with the opening of a brand new water sprayground at the Jeff Erlanger Playground at Rennebohm Park.
A Half-Million Dollar Investment in Inclusion
Thanks to an incredible $500,000 donation from the Madison Parks Foundation, the park now features a state-of-the-art water sprayground at the newly renamed Jeff Erlanger accessible playground. The facility completed construction in July 2025 and officially opened its gates in August, just in time for families to enjoy the last weeks of summer.
Building on a Foundation of Accessibility
This sprayground addition builds on the park's recent transformation. City officials recently unveiled the accessible playground itself, making Rennebohm Park Madison's fourth park to accommodate people of all abilities. The playground honors Jeff Erlanger, making the space even more meaningful for the community. "Thanks to the donations from our community, more people will have access to great amenities and feel welcome in our parks," said Stephanie Franklin, Madison Parks Foundation director.
Looking Ahead
The Madison Parks Foundation's contribution doesn't stop at construction costs. Their funding will also support ongoing maintenance of the sprayground, ensuring it remains a vibrant community resource for years to come. Franklin shared the foundation's vision for the future: "We will be focused on adding more accessible features and programs with continued community support."
Why This Matters
Accessible recreational spaces aren't just nice to have – they're essential for building truly inclusive communities. When parks welcome everyone, regardless of ability, they become gathering places where all families can create memories together. The Jeff Erlanger Playground and Sprayground at Rennebohm Park represents more than just water features and playground equipment. It's a commitment to ensuring that every child in Madison has the opportunity to experience the simple joy of playing in the park on a summer day.
