Expanding Dog Parks
Our city’s commitment to public parks and open spaces doesn’t stop at serving people — furry friends are included!

Madison is one of the most dog-friendly cities in the nation—and the Madison Parks Foundation is helping keep it that way. By supporting the development and improvement of public off-leash dog parks, MPF ensures that residents and their four-legged friends have safe, welcoming places to play, socialize, and explore.
A Growing Network of Parks
Today, Madison’s park system includes nine off-leash dog parks and several smaller neighborhood dog exercise areas, with more sites under development. Each park provides fenced, well-maintained spaces where dogs can run free and owners can connect with fellow community members. Features often include:
Separate small-dog areas for safe play
Accessible walking paths and double-gated entries
Shaded seating areas and water stations
Natural landscapes and open fields for dogs to roam
Community, Connection & Health
Dog parks do more than give pets a place to play—they bring people together. These spaces:
Strengthen community bonds as neighbors meet and socialize
Encourage outdoor activity and mental wellness for both dogs and humans
Support positive pet behavior through socialization and exercise
Create inclusive, mobility-friendly gathering spaces for all park users
Investing in Access & Amenities
Through donor support, MPF helps fund infrastructure improvements, shade structures, benches, signage, and accessibility upgrades—enhancing safety and enjoyment for everyone. Future goals include expanding pet-friendly amenities across more neighborhoods and ensuring every Madison resident has a nearby, welcoming space for off-leash recreation.
